An African safari vacation is incomplete without the Masai Mara. Kenya's Masai Mara is a popular safari vacation spot around the world. A tour of this reserve must be added to your travel bucket list. This beautiful destination is named after its ancestral habitat, the Maasai warriors.
The word ‘Mara’ means ‘spotted’ in the local language, referring to short, bushy trees dotting the landscape. This national reserve is distinguished by its rolling savannahs and spectacular wildlife diversity. A luxury Masai Mara safari vacation is one of the best ways to experience the undisturbed African wilderness.
Escaping into this exotic wilderness is going to make you celebrate your reunion with nature.
Day 1 |
Arrival at NairobiAfter your arrival, you will be received by our representative and taken to the hotel. The first day will allow you to wind down after the journey. You will get a chance to go around this metropolitan city, popularly known as "the green city in the sun." Depending on your time of arrival, you may like to explore the city. We recommend not stepping out on your own post-sunset and, better yet, taking a short guided tour, time permitting. |
Day 2 |
Enroute to Masai MaraWake up early the next morning for the most anticipated part of the trip, 'Masai Mara.' After an early breakfast, set out for a 6-7-hour journey as you drive through the Rift Valley and stop for some breathtaking views of nature. Your camp is located right in the middle of the park, and your Masai Mara safari starts as soon as you enter the park. You will first check into your camp and have lunch. Post-lunch, leave for your first game drive. The national park draws its name after the local inhabitants, the Maasai tribe, and "Mara" refers to spotted trees on the landscape. The champagne-colored savannah opens up for you to see the wild mammals lurking around: lions, leopards, elephants, spotted hyenas, and many more. If you are lucky enough, you can witness the rare black rhino, which is an endangered species. What makes a Masai Mara safari more interesting is that you may catch glimpses of the fastest mammal on land, the cheetah, chasing down its prey. You may witness other live hunts and chases as well, be they of a lion or a leopard. At Masai Mara, one can also visit conservancies like Naboisho, Mara North, and Olare Orok. The areas around the Sand, Mara, and Talek rivers are also very scenic, with many animals walking along the riverbed or wading through the river to cross over to greener pastures. With a 4x4 Landcruiser, you can drive into the heart of the Masai Mara to not only see a plethora of wild animals closely but also sight different species of birds through the pockets of Acacia woodlands. As the day comes to an end, get ready to experience the most beautiful sunset radiating final rays over these golden grasses. |
Days 3 - 5 |
Explore Masai MaraOver these three days, explore the Masai Mara and the richness of its wild landscape. One of these days, you can also visit a Maasai village to interact with the local people and learn about their culture. Interacting with the village chief would give you rare insights into the life of the Maasais as well as their contribution to the conservation of one of the most precious hubs of wildlife in its natural habitat. Another key attraction that you can opt for is a hot air balloon ride over the beautiful terrain of Masa Mara during sunrise. You can get a bird's-eye view of the majestic Masai Mara while you literally float in the sky. This is typically followed by a sit-down champagne breakfast amidst the wilderness. Apart from this, you can also enjoy an exotic breakfast in the vast savannahs. You are going to enjoy each bite of your food amidst nature at its best. On the last evening at Mara, you will experience a traditional bush dinner with Maasai dances. |
Day 6 |
Adieu to NairobiToday will be your final day at Mara, so it is time to enjoy one last game drive in the Masai Mara until about 10 a.m. Thereafter, proceed for breakfast at the resort, after which our representative will drive you back to Nairobi with an en route lunch. You will be transferred to the international airport for your flight back home or to your next destination. You are definitely going to have a lot of beautiful memories and stories to share with your friends and family. |

It also helps in creating employment opportunities for the local Masai people. Cultural interactions are mostly included in a Masai Mara safari vacation package and tour.
The Great Migration – Travellers can witness the wildebeest journey near the Mara triangle, a lesser-known area in the reserve. It has a fairly good concentration of wildlife and serves as a prime location for seeing the wildlife spectacle and embarking on a wildebeest safari tour and vacation. To experience the best of the Mara tour, travelers can head towards the Mara River. The survival of the fittest is best seen here as wildebeests cross the huge crocodile-infested river. PACK YOUR BAGS FOR YOUR THRILLING LUXURY MASAI MARA SAFARI VACATION EXPERIENCE
Welcome to the Masai Mara, the lion-dom of the Big Cat Diaries, the temporary headquarters for the Great Migration, a powerful warrior population of the Maasai, and the site of the world's most luxurious safari camps. The Maasai cultural experiences are a highlight of your Mara vacation tour.
The Masai Mara National Reserve and the surrounding conservancies make up Kenya's premier safari and conservation areas. It is also among Africa's best destinations for a safari tour and vacation. The Masai Mara National Reserve is named after the Maasai people, the traditional inhabitants of the land that you will find during your vacation safari in Kenya. The Masai Mara, also known as the Mara, is a major game reserve in South Western Kenya, effectively a northern extension of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park.
Local communities, rather than the Kenya Wildlife Service, administer the Mara, giving the Maasai, who are pastoralists, the right to graze their stock in grazing areas around the reserve's perimeter. You will see the Maasai manyattas -- mud-and-cow-dung-built, honeybee huts -- near the Mara entry.
On your safari vacation and tour to the Masai Mara, the largest roan antelopes as well as nocturnal bat-eared foxes, which are seldom seen anywhere else in Kenya, are both visible inside the reserve's boundaries. Around July of every year (and July would be one of the highlights of any safari holiday to the Masai Mara) the wildebeest migrate across a large expanse northwards from the Serengeti plains to find fresh grasslands, returning southwards around October.
Millions of wildebeest move across the Mara River from Kenya into Tanzania at this time. Every January, wildebeest begin moving clockwise around the ecosystem in Serengeti, following a rhythm, toward the new, fresh grasslands in the Mara. With all this and more to see, a safari vacation or tour in this reserve is rewarding and unforgettable.
