Mussoorie is a popular tourist place in the state of Uttarakhand. Mussoorie is a town in the district of Dehradun. Mussoorie Lake is a popular place in the town. T is an artificial lake surrounded by natural beauty. One can spend hours around the lake. The lake is a popular place even for the locals. Boating on the lake is a beautiful experience. The lake has pleasant weather throughout the year. Kempty Falls is a frequented place in Mussoorie. It is also visited by the tourists of Dehradun. The falls were discovered in 1832. The name is thus because of the tea parties that the British organised here. It was called Camp – tea and hence Kampty. The water falls from a height of 50 ft. the falling water forms pool at the base. The walk to the falls is a memorable one. The falls are surrounded by lush green mountains making the view even more mesmerising. Lal Tibba is a must visit place in Mussoorie. Located on Depot Hill Lal Tibba is a memorable place to visit. The view of sunrise and sunset from here is beautiful. The place is the highest point in Mussoorie. The point also gives beautiful view of various Himalayan Peaks. The way to Lal Tibba is as mesmerising as the place itself. Clouds End is a most visited place in Mussoorie. The place is covered with oak and Deodar trees. The place is visited not only by the tourists but also by the locals. The Cloud end hotel is a heritage hotel. It is the old heritage building built by Swetenham in 1838. The view of the Himalayas from this point is mesmerising. Benog Wild life Sanctuary is a beautiful place to visit. It is a protected region. It is a home to several species of fauna. The rare Panther can be spotted in the region. The aqua fauna of the region is diverse too owing to plenty of water bodies. The Red billed blue Magpie is indigenous to the region. It is very close to Clouds End. Other places to visit in and near Mussoorie are Camel’s Back Road, Jharipani Falls, Bhatta Falls, Heritage centres, library, Christ Church etc. are worth a visit.
What to eat
Wheat is a staple food of the region. The region has good vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The people of Uttarakhand eat coarse grain food but even that is worth having. The spice mix and preparation for food is different here and yet the food has good taste. A crop by the name of Jhingora is quite popular in the region. It is buckwheat and dishes made of it taste quite delicious. Food here is cooked in desi ghee and mustard oil making it quite healthy. Even the sweets of Uttarakhand like Bal Mithai, Gulgula and others are quite famous.
