Alappuzha is more famous by the name of Alleppey. It is a district nearby Kochi and is said to be the Venice of the East. The city is very popular among the tourists. It is also the place where the annual Nehru trophy boat race is held. Another attraction is the Mullackal chirap which is a 10 day festive season of Alleppey. The district is beautiful place to visit. The ideal time to visit the place is from October – March.
The history shows that there were trade relations of Alleppey with the Greeks and Romans. The city dates further back than the Sangam age. The city was under the rule of several dynasties such as the Cheras, Portuguese, Dutch, British and others. The city became a part of the state of Kerala after the partition.

Kumarakom bird Sanctuary is a beautiful place to visit in Kochi. The sanctuary is spread over an area of 14 acres. The place is a home to a large variety of bird and several migratory birds are its visitors. Several rare species of plants and birds are found here. Visiting the sanctuary is a magnificent as well as relaxing and refreshing experience.
Alleppey beach is known for its water and surroundings. It has a pier which is more than 150 yrs old stretching out into the sea. The beach is also known for the beach festival. The beach is a good place for relaxing and having fun at the same time as here water sports are carried out by the locals.
The longest lake of India is situated here. The Vembanad Lake is a lagoon ranks second in terms of size. This is a popular place to visit. In fact people hire boathouses and stay on the lake for a few days. A tour through the lake is amazing. You can see the fish swimming in the water, duck floating and lush green surrounding. The experience is further enhanced by the cool breeze and pleasant atmosphere.
