ITINERARY - 11 Days

Arrival at Chennai airport. Our representative will meet you at the airport and transfer to the hotel.

The first British warehouse came up in 1639 when the British acquired the sandy beach from the local Nayakas on lease. It was called Madraspatinam then. Later by 1654, the Fort St. George was built. Still later the neighboring villages were included in the city which came either as grants or gifts. Triplicane was rented from the Sultan of Golconda in 1676. In 1744 Robert Clive worked as a writer from the Fort, later to become a military man of British Army. The Fort House, which housed the Governor and his council, were added in the 17th Century, the Assembly Hall in 1910 and the Secretariat in 1925.

All the neighboring areas were merged into the city now known as Madras or as Chennai as it is officially known. Until Independence, Madras was the capital of what in British times was called the Madras Presidency, comprising nearly the whole of South India, including the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada speaking areas.

BY ROAD IN 4 HOURS

Today - drive to Mahabalipuram en-route visiting Kanchipuram.

Kanchipuram is world-famous for its gorgeous handwoven silk. The exquisite silk saris from Kanchipuram are the toast of the cocktail circuit, from Kashmir to the Kanyakumari.

Visit the various temples in Kanchipuram and drive further to Mahabalipuram.

Reach and check in to the hotel.

Evening at leisure.

Overnight will be at Mahabalipuram.

Mahabalipuram is an ancient seaport city that is located on the shores of the Bay of Bengal. Once the naval base and main harbor of the Pallava empire, Mahabalipuram boasts of several shrines and temples.

Enjoy a visit to the following places:

Caves: The Mahishasuramardhini will present before you an awe-inspiring sight the depicts Lord Vishnu in his deep cosmic sleep on one side and the Goddess fighting with a demon on the other.

Krishna Mandapam: Depicting one of the numerous stories of Lord Krishna is a bas-relief panel with realistic representation.

Arjuna's Penance: Pride of Mamallapuram, it is the world’s largest 27-meter x 9-meter bas-relief made on a huge whaleback rock and depicts almost the entire life-form from several gods and demigods, men, animals, and birds.

Pancha Rathas: These are five chariot-shaped monolithic Indian rock-cut monuments, each dedicated to the Pandavas and their wife Draupadi.

The Shore Temple: Built in 700–728 AD, the Shore Temple is named after its location on the shores of the Bay of Bengal and houses shrines for Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. It is one of the prime examples of Dravidian architecture.

By Road In 2 Hours

Proceed to Pondicherry. Reach and check in to the hotel.

Later proceed for the Heritage walk of the French Quarters in Pondicherry.

The journey will then continue towards Pondicherry located on the eastern coast of South India. Presenting the French influence in the architecture and cuisines, Pondicherry is said to be where Saint Agastya settled.

Visit the 17th century Immaculate Conception Cathedral and the Gothic Sacred Heart Church on the Southern Boulevard, stopping to admire the exquisite stained glass panels depicting events from the life of Christ.

Drive to visit Aurobindo Ashram, a commune housing followers from the world over. The ashram aims to disseminate the philosophy of Aurobindo’s “integral yoga” to the world.

Visit the paper factory and the fishermen’s village. Enjoy a walk in the city.

By Road In 3 Hours

Morning – drive to Tranquebar en-route visiting Chidambaram.

Chidambaram - One of the most important holy towns in Tamil Nadu, Chidambaram was the Chola dynasty’s capital from AD 907 to 1310.

Nataraja temple - is dedicated to Lord Natraja, the dancing avatar of Lord Shiva. The Nataraja dances the dance of apocalypse that destroys the cosmos, to pave the way for new creation. This Indian temple complex is set within a walled rectangular frame and covers an area of about 22 hectares. The corridors surrounding the sanctum contain sculptured pillared halls and numerous shrines.

Proceed further to Tranquebar. Reach and check in to the hotel.

Here you will get to see the Royal Danish Insignia inscribed on the town gate of Tranquebar. The tour will take you from the beaches to the Fort Dansborg, the Zion Church, the New Jerusalem Church, the Masilamani Nathar Temple, and the Ziegenbalg Museum.

Today drive to Swamimalai at leisure.

Morning – drive to Chettinad en-route visiting Trichy and Tanjore.

Also known as Trichy, the city of Tiruchirapalli is located at Kaveri River’s banks. It is a pilgrim center with a mix of tradition and history and is also home to the Srirangam Ranganatha Temple.

You will continue your journey to Tanjore or Thanjavur visiting the Kumbakonam brass factory en route.

Tanjore is the home to Brihadeshwara temple that has a total height of 66 meters.

Morning enjoy Kolam Drawing session (6:30 am – 7:00 am)

Enjoy a nice breakfast and later proceed for the village experience. You can also opt for activities like the farm visit, iconography, bullock cart ride, and a cycle tour of the village.

Evening at leisure and to experience a cooking demo.

There will be a cultural Dance and Music show.

Morning – drive to Chettinad en-route visiting Trichy and Tanjore.

Morning – visit the following:

Chettinad with its century-old mansions is sure to intrigue you. You can also visit the Athangudi village that is known for the tiles said to be inspired by the European carpets brought home by affluent Chettiars.

Later – drive to Madurai.

Reach Madurai and check in to the hotel.

One of the great temple towns in Southern India, Madurai is located on the banks of the Vaigai river and boasts of a rich cultural heritage that is passed through generations from the great Tamil Era over 2,500 years ago. Once known as the capital of the Pandya kings, Madurai, even in 550 AD, was an important commercial and cultural center.

A prime example of Dravidian architecture, the famous Sri Meenakshi Amman Temple is the main attraction of the city and one of the most popular Indian temple. Established in six hectares of area, the temple has 12 temple towers known as Gopurams. The magnificent temple complex is dedicated to Sundareshvara, the name for Lord Shiva in the region, and Lady Meenakshi or Pavarti, his consort. While the temple was built by Kulasekara Pandyas, but the splendor was added later by the Nayakas.

We take you to the tea shop to taste the sip of your tea with the snacks,

Garland – Madurai is famous for flowers, here you can see how the people tying those flowers as a beautiful garland. These adorned garlands are purchased by the local people for the occasions. They can also see one of the oldest landmarks of Madurai called Light Tower (Vilaku Thoon) and the tour ends at Ten Pillar Street.

Later you can taste the classic Madurai breakfast which will be served in Banana Leaf.

Later - take a flight back to Chennai to connect with your International Flight back home.
