ITINERARY - 3 Days

Our representative will meet you at Amritsar station and will help you check into your hotel. Have a comfortable overnight stay in your hotel to be fresh for your sightseeing escapades in the city of Amritsar.

Founded by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das in 1577, Amritsar is a prominent spiritual center for Sikhism and is marked by the presence of the serene and beautiful Golden Temple. The city by itself is a conglomeration of the hustling and bustling of alleys, markets and the famous Punjabi cuisine. The old city has a unique architectural significance of ‘katras’ or residences that are reached through mazes of alleyways and in earlier times provided safety from invaders.

After a sumptuous breakfast in your hotel, we proceed for a full day of sightseeing and make our way to the Wagah Border in the evening to witness the ceremonial gate closing ceremony.

The sightseeing journey begins by visiting the iconic Golden Temple. Surrounded by the glistening Amrit Sarovar the Golden Temple shrine shines in the midst of this tank which is believed to have healing powers and is deemed as the source of the name of the city, Amritsar.

Floating at one end of the walkway the Golden Temple is a blend of Islamic and Hindu architecture and is decorated with panels adorned in gold and silver carvings. The temple has a lower marble level followed by the second level carved in gold panels finally giving way to the golden dome.

The holy book, Adi Granth or the Guru Granth Sahib lies on an elevated throne within the temple and is taken and returned every night to its sanctuary called the Akal Takht. Inside the Akal Takht, there is a collection of sacred Sikh weapons.

A visit to the Wagah Border marks the end of the day with the gate closing ceremony, a must watch procedure for its military precision and discipline.

Return to the hotel and rest well for the night.

After breakfast, we proceed towards the next tourist destination, the Summer Palace of Ranjit Singh which is surrounded by a large garden and stands within high walls. A museum is built in his memory, displaying manuscripts, paintings and weapons. Ranjit Singh was a valiant leader of the Sikh empire and is known for his stand against the British.

Next, we go to the Jallianwala Bagh the memorial that marks a poignant struggle of the Indian Independence movement. On 13th April 1919, the British open fired on a congregation of Indian gatherers injuring and killing hundreds. A flame-shaped monument stands solemnly at the place of the massacre and the bullet-ridden walls and well in which men, women and children jumped to escape the bullets bear witness to the horrific day in history.

In the evening, it is time to head towards Delhi and our representative will accompany you to the Amritsar station for your onward journey.
