Day 1

Stay at Antananarivo

Upon arriving in Antananarivo (or Tana, which is what the locals call it), you will be escorted from the airport and transferred to your hotel where you will stay overnight.

Day 2

Voyage to Masoala Forest Lodge

You will be driven to the nearby airport for an early flight to Maroantsetra in the morning. On arrival at Maroantsetra airport, you will be transferred to the boat for a voyage across Antongil Bay which takes you to the Masoala Forest Lodge. The journey will take around two hours, and there’s a good chance of sighting dolphins and whales against the backdrop of the forested mountains of the Masoala Peninsula. On arrival at the lodge beach, you will be welcomed ashore to settle into camp and have a delicious lunch in the beach house after freshening up. Afternoon activities include exploring the coastal forest and beaches in the lodge area and enjoying a swim in the sea, followed by a guided walk along the coast past Tampolo Point, where you may spot white-fronted brown lemurs in the coastal forest. You will return to the camp for sundowners around a campfire on the beach and enjoy dinner in the lodge.

Afterwards, you will move to the Masoala Forest Lodge and spend the remaining day kayaking, trekking, snorkeling, whale-watching, and swimming.

Day 3

Swim in the Tampolo River

We start the third day of the Madagascar honeymoon itinerary with a breakfast buffet on the sea deck. Then you will leave for a guided walk through the coastal forest to sight more birds and mammals. After walking a couple of hours, you can take a welcome swim in the crystal clear waters of the cascades of the Tampolo River located at the foot of the forested mountains and return to the camp on a traditional dugout canoe paddling down the river. After lunch, you can enjoy a relaxed afternoon swimming on the private beaches for snorkeling among the coral reefs. In the evening there is a guided nocturnal walk to see the secretive nocturnal wildlife such as Leaf-tailed Gecko, Dwarf, and Mouse lemurs and the elusive Aye-Aye.

Your dinner will be served at the lodge and stay the night.

Day 4

Kayak to Sacred Island

First, you will have breakfast on the sea deck and then proceed for an exploration of the calm water and the fantastic rock formations of Tampolo point by sea kayak or boat. You can then take a swim on the beach at “Sacred Island” and then continue kayaking into the pristine mangrove forested banks of the river, where you might spot blue-spotted stingrays in the shallow water or bamboo lemurs that are crossing the river. After a picnic lunch on the beach, you will return to the camp (by the same kayak or boat) for an evening of fun with a visit from the traditional Malagasy music and dance group from the local village.

You can have some sundowners around the beach campfire and some dinner in the lodge before sleeping in.

Day 5

Visit to Ambodiforaha village

Again, breakfast will be served on the sea deck. Today, you will take another short guided walk through the coastal forest trails over to the rice fields and farmlands of the nearby village of Ambodiforaha, which offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the local Betsimisaraka culture and sustainable lifestyle in the rainforest. You will get to see the traditional houses and kitchens and see baskets, mats, and hats being woven, and vanilla, cloves, coffee, and rice being harvested. You can even pay a visit to the village school, co-funded by the lodge. After lunch at the lodge, you can take a stroll down the beach to the Tampolo River and have a peaceful pirogue trip on the calm shady river to observe the birdlife in the region.

Another evening enjoying sundowners around the beach campfire and dinner in the lodge will be the cherry on top to finish off the fifth day of your Madagascar honeymoon package.
