There are very few things in life that can make us feel an unimaginable force of adrenaline. What would you give to watch an amazing view atop the highest summit of Africa?
Mt Kilimanjaro has been one of the most popular summits for trekkers. People come looking for thrill and adventure, and they leave with the memories of scenic views, brag-worthy moments and a gallant tale to tell their friends, apart from a lifetime of memories.
Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro has been the dream of many trekkers. It challenges the trekkers and successfully acclimates them to the changing environment. Man becomes one with nature, as the Mt Kilimanjaro trek navigates them through many landscape views of plateaus, deserts, and greenery.
The Mt Kilimanjaro trek is carried out via the Machame route, also known as the "Whiskey Route". It is the most widely chosen trek route and offers a wide range of scenic beauties, apart from challenging the trekkers with steep climbs and slopes.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro
After you've landed at Kilimanjaro airport, you'll be taken to your accommodation at Moshi. Moshi is a cultural and commercial hub, on its own. Tourists come here all the time in the hopes of climbing to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. Today is all about relaxing and chilling around. After a nourishing breakfast and lunch, the first day will be spent in leisure, before the hustle begins.
After a healthy breakfast, you'll set out on your first day of trekking Mount Kilimanjaro. You'll be taken to the origin point of the trek in Moshi. The next few days will be gruelling, especially for inexperienced climbers. While you'll have expert guides to support you, a kit-inspection and detailed briefing will take place before the hike begins.
A day at Machame Camp
We'll start the trek from the Machame Gate and take a stroll through the densely forested area. You're starting your trek at an altitude of 1800 meters. But before you begin, look around and take in the view. It's beautiful, isn't it? The thick canopies will be contrasting the elusive glimpses of the glaciated Kibo. Your trek has just begun!
All three meals- breakfast, lunch, and dinner, are included for the day.
On towards the Shira Camp
You've reached the next phase in trekking Mount Kilimanjaro. The journey from Machame Camp to Shira Camo can be covered in approximately five-to-seven hours. The Shira Camp, located at an altitude of 3840 meters, provides a closer view of the snow-dusted peaks of our favorite Kibu. Take some rest at the Shira plateau and admire the magnificent sun shining on Kibu's snow, with all its might.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included, and you'll be camping for the night.
Next stop is Barranco Camp
The ascend from Shira to Barranco will test your survival skills and your tenacity to perform well under pressure. The terrain will become increasingly difficult to tame and you'll begin to feel the challenge in front of you. The Barranco Wall is treacherous, but you'll tame it with the help of experienced guides.
Finish all three of your meals; you'll need the strength.
Reaching Karanga will include conquering the steep climb of the Barranco Wall. Once you've reached Karanga, it's time to relax for a while. Trekking can be exhausting, both mentally and physically. Refresh your mind with the captivating view of Kibu. If you feel like it, you can go on walks to get acclimatized.
All three meals are included.
Making your way to the Uhuru Peak
First, we'll reach the Barafu site, after a moderately challenging hike from Karanga to Barafu. You can refresh at this site and acclimatize yourself. Our next stop is Uhuru Peak. Reaching Uhuru Peak isn't too hard, once you've crossed Karanga. The zig-zag path can be navigated easily; you'll have to cover the path slowly and steadily.
We'll try and catch Uhuru at sunrise, so we can enjoy the view at its best.
Descend from the Mweka route
After relaxing for a while, you would have regained the energy required to descend via the Mweka route. The descent is easier as there are well-constructed paths and various facilities are available once you've reached the end.
Regain your spent energy by gorging on scrumptious meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Bid Mount Kilimanjaro adieu as you take a flight home. If there's one thing to be sure of, it is that you will never forget your experience of conquering the Kilimanjaro summit. You were able to surround yourself with nature in all its glory. That's not something you can ever forget.
Undoubtedly, you'll be leaving with a bunch of memories and a confident persona.
